The Dutch National Contact Point found Pluspetrol in breach of OECD Guidelines for failing to disclose, engage with Indigenous peoples, address pollution, or remediate over 3,000 contaminated sites in the Peruvian Amazon.
- On 3 September, the Dutch NCP published a final statement on a 2020 complaint brought by four indigenous federations from Peru together with four NGOs against Pluspetrol Resources for violations of the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Corporations.
- The complaint alleged that Pluspetrol polluted an area in the Peruvian Amazon by dumping toxic wastewater, neglecting infrastructure, and leaving over 3,000 contaminated sites. Since ending operations in 2015, the company has refused cleanup or compensation, leaving rivers and soils poisoned with cadmium and lead, harming biodiversity and Indigenous communities.
- Pluspetrol refused the NCPs offer of mediation (good offices). The NCP found that Pluspetrol violated several aspects of the OECD Guidelines, including failure to disclose, failure to meaningfully engage with stakeholders, specifically indigenous peoples, failure to prevent and address environmental pollution and its impacts on health, and failure to remediate.
